My work explores the process of allowing
new parts of ourselves to emerge.

I’m curious about the internal and external experience of change. How do we navigate transitions both privately and within the context of our relationships? What holds us back from recognizing something previously-unseen in ourselves, and what helps us boldly step into a new identity? How do we make space for all of the different feelings that can arise, including joy, sadness, excitement, and fear?

I use ceramics and fiber arts to reflect on this process. After their final firing, stoneware is essentially “fixed” and unchangeable while fiber arts, such as felting and embroidery, can be easily altered indefinitely. The two practices each offer their own unique qualities to explore changing identities, both by themselves and when used together in the same piece.
